Tips For Coaching During Gameday At Kids Baseball Leagues

By Cara Torres

The most important things for kids baseball leagues coaches nowadays is to make sure that everything goes well during gameday. This is because this is one of the experiences that not only children are looking forward to but parents as well. A single fault during a big gameday will usually signal the end of the coach's career.

When it comes to taking care of the game plans for the league games, there are lots of things that one has to take into consideration. For those who are actually volunteering or were nominated to become head coach, there are several tips that they have to bear in mind. Here are those things that they have to pay attention to.

First off, it is necessary for the person to think about a suitable playing time for the little ones. It is necessary to split the playing time properly so that each and every child is given a fair chance to play. This is also a similar principle that one has to follow when it comes to the number of innings the child gets to play.

The coach will also have to consider what kind of positions to give to the athletes. It should be a given for the coach to thoroughly consider who will be the best to put in a certain position. Remember, the athlete who holds a position is one of the keys to win a game. Wrong athlete to the wrong position means losing the game.

The policies for both the playing position and the playing time should be considered well. Not only that, this is something that should have been explained to the parents before the league starts. This is so that the parents will have an idea on what goes on in the bench and not only on what they see on the fields.

There is also a need to decide on signs beforehand. A game at a tee ball level will not actually require signs but it is surely different for those children who are already at their competitive age of seven. A sign to know if the child should do a bunt, steal, or hit-and-run should be decided before the competition starts.

The umpires are the ones who facilitate the game. They are also similar to the head coach in a way that they are also volunteers from the parents. Since this is the case, the head coach should treat the umpires with respect. The coach should treat them with respect in the same way that one wants to be treated.

The head coach will also have to think about the parents. This is because the parents will have to support the kids positively. If possible, tell the parents to avoid saying anything to the umpire. Also, make sure that they do not give any form of coaching to their children from where they are at the stands.

The coach should be the one who is the most calm in every game. Maintaining a level head is one of the jobs of a coach, after all. They need to keep calm, especially during kids baseball leagues, since this will allow them to keep the big picture in mind. They can make good decisions when their head is clear.
